Do you think outsourcing lowers team morale when a certain staff member is especially experienced in the job you’re outsourcing?

The question would be why are you outsourcing a job that a staff member can do? I believe it’s consumes less time/money to assign staff on a job.

I think outsourcing, while you have an experienced staff member does lower team morale and poses the question: are we not good enough?

I think you’re better off looking at it from a time angle. Is it urgent, would someone with more experience be able to complete the job on time? This should be the first issue; of course it affects your team’s moral, outsourcing combined with off-shoring is a menace to your business.

Bwayne, it costs less time since the contractor is more experience and could do the job in a jiffy.

I don’t believe outsourcing/off-shoring is menace to business. On the contrary, it gives room for the fittest to do the job.

In this case, it isn’t the “fittest”, it’s the “cheaper”. The main reason for the off-shoring is cost, we offshore our jobs to Indian programmers who duplicate scripts.

Someone’s bitter at off-shoring! I realize that many of the programming jobs are being off-shored, however; if you had the qualifications required, I don’t think your boss would rather deal with someone who can barely speak English.

Unfortunately, it is. What do you call jobs being stolen from the laps of locals and dumped on some programmer in I don’t know where. It affects the income of local employees. I agree with Techguy it isn’t about if they’re qualified or not, an American programmer won’t settle for the hourly wage given to that of someone abroad.

But would it affect the team morale as a whole if I outsourced a one man’s job. I run a business in which team morale is critical to the job’s performance.

From my experience, if you have doubts about a decision to be made in your business, trust your intuition. If you say it’s critical, then you must risk a deterioration in the company’s performance.

Bitter? You call my income being stolen away from me not a reason for me to be bitter. You are arguing about something obvious, I don’t see a need for outsourcing other than greed.

Time is the issue. My staff member is going to finish the job in two weeks while the contractor gave me a week’s estimate. I don’t see greed in that, rather management.

Maybe my wording wasn’t considerate. Still, we live in an age of globalization, if you don’t want the job, someone else will take it. It’s a fact. We can’t do anything about it.

Well the EU did, you cannot give the job to a foreigner if they’re a qualified citizen. True, we are in an age of globalization, but we still have different economies. $200/mo would put me on the streets, while in India, someone would live like a king with such an amount.

In the EU that’s used in a different context. They still do outsource, there’s nothing against outsourcing or off-shoring in their law. Well, maybe that’s the downside of globalization.
